Marlene Amelia McKinnon [blend from Maria meaning “star of the sea” and Magdalene]

1. born on 20 August, 1960 at noon; sign Leo;




2. father Garrick, mother Isabelle McKinnon [née Desrosiers];




3. siblings: Malcolm, Milo, Marcas, Merric, and Maxwell [as based upon the headcanon by an-jelly-ca]




4. she was born and raised in the family house in London.




5. she is the only girl in generations of the McKinnon family.




6. Her favorite smell in the entire world was fresh baked cookies her grandmother used to make for her. [see Marlene’s amortentia]




7. her grandmother died when she was 5; her grandfather, though rather strict-looking, was her best friend when she was little. Being the only girl in generations, she was his little princess and could do anything that pleased her when he was around.




8. her grandfather especially liked to mention how much she looked like her grandmother and Marlene always thought that he was spending so much time with her so he wouldn’t forget his wife.




9. she did take after the McKinnon side of the family. Her mother usually liked to point out how well she would have looked as a blonde with blue eyes [like everyone from her mother’s side].




10. She always loved Quidditch but not even her grandfather wanted to teach her how to fly a broom because he used to say that girls didn’t play that game.




11. Her mother always tried to make her more feminine by making her take dance, cook and knit lessons.




12. Dancing and cooking were perfectly okay but knitting…she took the needle and threw it out of the window on the street claiming that she was never going to try it again. And she didn’t.




13. She spent some of her early childhood at her grandmother’s (Isabelle’s mother) in France at the seaside where she fell in love with the sea and up until the day that she died, it was her favorite place in the whole world.




14. When she was four, her grandparents took her to the Old McKinnon Mansion in the countryside. 




15. That’s where she met James Potter and became best friends with him.




16. The two of them made more mischief than any other couple anyone ever met (well, until James joined the famous Marauders).




17. It was a really beautiful friendship though James was sometimes too worried over her getting hurt while trying to do God-knows-what just to prove she could be like a boy.




18. Thanks to James and hers friendship, the Potter and the McKinnon family were very close too.




19. Since her family was of a high class, they used to visit (or make) parties for the most noble ones in their society.




20. That’s where she met Sirius and Regulus Black.




21. Sirius taught her how to fly a broom in his backyard. It ended very painful.




22. They used to hang out for a while (mostly at the parties at Grimauld place) but then the McKinnons clearly stated that they’re against Voldemort and she didn’t see him again for a long time.




23. They did exchange a few letters until Sirius’ mother found out about it.




24. That’s when she found out about ‘mudbloods’ and Voldemort’s ideas.




25. She was very much jealous of her four older brothers because they got to go to Hogwarts and she had to stay home with her younger brother.




26. When she got the letter, she screamed and her parents thought something happened to her. 




27. She immediately sent an owl to James to make sure he got one too.




28. They arrived together at the station, she was holding onto him and jumping up and down like a “little drugged rabbit” [to quote James’ exact words].




29. That’s where she saw Sirius for the first time after two years. [for more Marlius headcanon click here]




30. She was very glad that James and Sirius immediately liked each other. Little did she know that she was responsible for all the future glory of the Marauders.




31. A blonde girl was crying in front of her compartment and she asked what was wrong and the blonde said she didn’t know anyone so Marlene offered her to join their compartment. It turned out to be the best thing she ever offered to someone.




32. She was probably the only one who wasn’t nervous when it came to sorting. Generations of Gryffindors in her family ensured her place in that house.




33. …well, until she remembered that two of her brothers weren’t in Gryffindor. [Milo and Marcas were in Hufflepuff].




34. She had a nice chat with the Sorting hat. It was considering of putting her in Ravenclaw until she threatened to shred it into pieces if it did.




35. She was so happy that the blonde girl she met on the train got into Gryffindor too. 




36. Marlene met Lily the first night in the dormitory. The girls disputed over who would take the bed by the window and when it seemed that the argument would turn into the first girl fight of the year, they laughed. From that moment on they, alongside Dorcas Meadowes, were inseparable. 




37. Marlene did get the bed by the window.




38. Her favorite subject had to be Transfiguration. 




39. Her favorite book was ‘Wuthering Heights’, a Muggle novel that Lily gave her as a gift for her 12th birthday.




40. She used to sneak to the headmaster’s office and drink tea with him and her Grandfather who were great friends.




41. She loved hanging out with Hagrid.




42. At first, she was rather annoyed that James was always going on and on about Lily. She didn’t really believe they would be a good couple. And she always suspected that Lily liked Remus.




43. She asked Lily who laughed and told her that Marlene’s the silliest friend she ever had.




44. At the end of first year, she tripped a girl down the stairs. [she was really sorry afterwards but that blonde was trying to take her friend Sirius away from her and no one took her friends away from her].




45. She got drunk for the first time somewhere in the middle of her third year and pranked the Slytherins. It was one of the most famous pranks Hogwarts has ever seen.




46. Later on, she blamed Sirius for challenging her to drink more than him. The good thing was that she actually won.




47. Marlene seemed to be the one to wake up the pranksters inside Lily, Dorcas and Mary.




48. She was overall known as a sweet and sociable girl but when someone dared to touch her friends, she turned on her ‘Marles bitchy mode’ and then no one was safe.




49. She didn’t like nicknames.




50. Her favorite sweets were Sugar Quills. 




51. She loved going to Hogsmeade. 




52. Her favorite passtime at the village was sitting in the ‘three broomsticks’ and drinking butterbeer with her friends.

54. She also loved beating the boys in snow wars.




55. Winter was her favorite season.




56. All until the 5th year, the girls regularly pranked the boys. But then, strangely, the pranks seemed not to work anymore. It was like the boys somehow knew what was coming.




57. Her first kiss was Gideon Prewett in fourth year. Her brother Merric found out and all hell broke loose. 




58. Marlene was a fashion freak, she sometimes even liked to design clothes for her and her friends.




59. She designed all the dresses for the girls for the 5th year Christmas ball.




60. Her date for the fifth year ball was Benjy. That ball didn’t really end well [Marlius chaos]




61. Marlene was never anyone’s fuck buddy. NEVER.




62. As a matter of fact, she lost her virginity by the ends of sixth year with a Hufflepuff named David.




63. She got into a big duel with Avery, Mulciber, Snape and Regulus after they attacked Mary while she was alone. 




64. Before that, she tried to get on well with Regulus Black and actually make him think about what he was doing [mostly for his brother’s sake] but it didn’t end well. Regulus called Marlene names she would never like to repeat again and it only made the brothers drift apart even further. Regulus however, always knew about Marlene’s feelings for his brother and tried to use it against her a few time after the big fight.




65. In third year, she applied for Quidditch. She was a chaser, alongside her best friend James Potter.




66. She suffered a broken leg AND arm during one of the matches.




67. She hated hospitals.




68. …more so after her oldest brother Malcolm ended up in St. Mungo’s with severe wounds. [middle of fifth year]




69. Nothing could ever compare to the pain she felt at that moment when she found out. Or so she thought.




70. In sixth year she received the news of her grandfather dying. Three people had to hold her.




71. The headmaster allowed Lily and Dorcas to accompany Marlene to her grandfather’s funeral. She was eternally grateful that they were there.




72. When she came back, the rest of the class organized a gathering in the common room, to make her forget about everything at least for a while.




73. She knew about the Order of the Phoenix and demanded of Dumbledore to make her a member. He refused and told her to finish school first.




74. She was never really sure what she would be: a professional Quidditch player, a Healer alongside Dorcas or an Auror.




75. She decided she wanted to be an Auror somewhere in seventh year after finding out that the cause of her grandfather’s death were the Death Eaters.




76. She thought everyone, including her family, forgot about her 17th birthday but they actually threw her a surprise party and invited all of her friends.




77. It was when the Lily accident happened. Marlene was never able to really forgive herself for slapping her best friend even if it was accidentally. 




78. She would never admit it to anyone but she was deadly scared of what was going on outside of the Hogwarts walls. Though she wanted to join the Order, she wasn’t really keen on finishing school and walking out of safety.




79. She used to hide on the Astronomy tower and just watch the stars. 




80. She was deadly afraid of being left alone.




81. Her first breakdown was when she found out James’ parents were dead. She was with him the whole time, at the funeral and later she walked calmly out of the common room and went to her hiding place and just broke down.




82. At the announcement that James and Lily were finally dating, she sneaked out into Hogsmeade, got bottles and bottles of firewhiskey and got drunk together with Sirius.




83. When Sirius asked her to go with him to the Christmas ball, it was the happiest moment of her life.




84. When he finally kissed her and made sure to clear up that it wasn’t any bet or anything, she laughed and kissed him back. 




85. When she told Remus and the rest of the Marauders that she knew what the ‘fury little problem’ was and that she had known for quite a while, Remus just commented that Sirius had found his perfect match.




86. She joined the Order as soon as she finished school.




87. Marlene was one of the best members in the Order though she was often very reckless with her own life [quote by Dumbledore: “You’d die for the ones you love but you take your life for granted, Marlene.”]




88. She was Lily’s maid of honor. 




89. She got drunk after the wedding and sang in front of all the guests. No one was amused because she had the worst singing voice.




90. When Lily told her she was pregnant, Marlene cried.




91. She threw ‘History of Magic’ at James’ head when he suggested that the baby should be named after all of Sirius’ girlfriends.




92. Marlene was the only one to know that Remus was going to propose to Dorcas. He asked her help in choosing the right ring for the bride-to-be.




93. When she held Harry for the first time, she cried and whispered all kind of cute nicknames.




94. She died thinking that James and Lily were safe because Sirius was their secret keeper.




95. She used to cry herself to sleep the first few nights after the Potters went into hiding.




96. Sirius brought the news of Dorcas’ death. She screamed for half an hour.




97. Days after her best friend’s death were spent sitting by the window and staring blankly at the river.




98. Her last birthday was celebrated with only her and Sirius.




99. Before she went to visit her parents, she kissed Sirius and lingered into his embrace just a little bit longer than she intended.




100. Her last thought, before Bellatrix’s killing curse hit her was: ‘I hope they’re safe.’
